The Fossil Crisis Task Force is a focused workstream established by the Coordinating Council in response to the ongoing global fossil fuel crisis. Sustained disruption to global oil and gas supplies has driven rapid increases in energy prices, exposing the systemic risks of fossil fuel dependency and sharpening the urgency for clean power, electrification and grid expansion. The Task Force brings together organisations from across the grid’s ecosystem including; Carbon Trust, UNEZA, RMI, WRI, RETA, G-PST, GCEP, IRENA, GGC, GRA, NREL, ETC, E3G, DESNZ and Transition Zero.

The task force is focussing on practical, near-term solutions for governments, regulators and grid operators. Its findings will be published at London Climate Action Week in June 2026.

The Coordinating Council for the Acceleration of Expansion and Resilience of Grids is the central forum for aligning global efforts on grid expansion and resilience. Established under the COP30 Action Agenda, it brings together over 20 organisations from across the international grids ecosystem. GGI serves as lead and Secretariat.

The GGI Finance Working Group convenes international public and private financial institutions as well as infrastructure and climate finance experts to accelerate how climate finance can be mobilised to meet the large investments needed in grid infrastructure across emerging and developing economies.

Convened in partnership with UNEZA, the Supply Chains Working Group meets to drive and coordinate action by convening UNEZA members, regional institutions and regulators to address common challenges.

The GGI Africa Working Group was established under the auspices of the African Union Commission in 2021, with the objective of facilitating complementary support towards the accelerated development of selected regional transmission projects that form part of the second phase of the Programme for Infrastructure Development Priority Action Plan (PIDA PAP 2).

Led in partnership with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), the GGI Asia-Pacific Working Group accelerates prioritised continental and regional transmission grid programmes and projects in the Asia-Pacific region.

In partnership with Climate Compatible Growth (CCG), the GGI delivers capacity building through the development of knowledge tools and the delivery of training sessions to our ecosystem partners.

The COP29 Global Energy Storage and Grids Pledge aims to accelerate the clean energy transition with ambitious targets for storage and grids. The Green Grids Initiative, in collaboration with the Global Renewables Alliance and its members, is working to raise awareness and drive support for these critical targets.
