Developed in collaboration with Climate Compatible Growth and with inputs from across the globe, the Electricity Transition Playbook is a tool to help policymakers build and deliver plans to transition to a clean electricity system.
During COP28 in Dubai, 134 countries signed the Global Renewables and Energy Efficiency Pledge (Triple up and Double down) at COP28. Whilst the pledge is an important commitment, what really counts is action and delivery. A Pledge without action is meaningless.
The first step to action is having a plan that adds up.
The Electricity Transition Playbook comprises 9 building blocks which are essential for developing a holistic plan:

Identify the policy frameworks needed to drive progress along the defined pathway.
Establish the necessary markets, frameworks, and tools to integrate low-carbon power while ensuring reliable, secure supply.
Plan for essential transmission and grid infrastructure—no transition can succeed without it.
Develop new tools and methods for reliable system operation.
Consider technologies essential for future grid operations, including telecommunications, big data, and smart systems.
Engage consumers and communities impacted by the transition, ensuring support and involvement.
Address infrastructure needs and workforce development for building and maintaining the new power system.
Explore various financing approaches to fund the transition effectively.
These modules incorporate best practices and case studies from around the world, providing actionable insights.
The Electricity Transition Playbook is also offered globally as a four-day, in-person training bringing together participants from multiple countries, fostering knowledge-sharing and collaboration as they develop tailored plans for their respective nations.
